I can only write briefly but wanted to start the travel blog in hopes of making daily inputs. The reason the time is short is my luggage was lost... my charger for my computer is in it. I can only really afford 10 minutes before responsibility takes over and I save my computer battery for my meetings tomorrow. Although, hopefully, the luggage will arrive at midnight tonight (the promised time by Lufthansa) and the charger and I will be reunited. I won't take any chances on trusting them, though. After all, they are German!
The trip started out pleasant enough. Within 5 minutes of posting to FB that I needed a ride to the airport, I had 2 offers. DD picked me up and took me to the airport. DM met me there (she was working) and walked with me to my gate. I am so blessed to have such good friends. The first flight took off a little late and I slept all the way to Charlotte NC. I had enough time to grab a beer (sleep aid) before my flight to Frankfurt.
On the plane to Frankfurt I was seated next to a pleasant young man - Student at LSU. He started some idel chit chat but I kinda blew him off. We watched a movie, I ate the food (that I brought on from the airport vs. airline food) and then I napped. When I awoke, he said, "Good morning." It is such an odd feeling sleeping next to a stranger on the plane. I don't think I"ll ever get over it - especially when they are of the opposite sex. Any way, we chatted for the next hour. He is Nepalese and was on his way home to Kathmandu. One of the things I love about traveling is getting to know people and hear their stories. He was excited because he was going to surprise his family. He hadn't been home in 3 years and had told them he wouldn't be able to make it this summer. But, then he changed departments and was able to get the time off. I told him I was very excited for his mom because I'm sure she'll be thrilled. He beamed with excitement.
In Frankfurt I took note of all things German. First thing was a bus that met us at the airplane to take us to the airport. It had a hydraulic lift system that tiled the bus toward the area where people got on (to lower the step up) and then lifted it back even when the bus closed the doors and drove. I know it was German engineered! Even though I was traveling onto Turkey, I had to clear customs in Germany....They get the award for most efficient and my favorite customs officiers in the world!
Okay, have to sign off. Battery icon is low. More when the power cord arrives....
